Another trip back in time to Tri-State minis in the early 1908s. This group is still going strong in the southern MI, NE IN, NW OH area. On the way over to the Sand Lake pull, we stopped in Stanton, MI at Mid_Michigan Motorplex to take in some drag race qualifying. It was very hot out, but it didn't stop anyone from trying to haul ass. The very strong contingent of Junior Dragsters was nice to see. The future is in good hands there.
As referenced in the past 2 podcasts, here's part 1 of an American Sports Cavalcade produced by Diamond P Sports show where Steve Evans, Paul Page, & Brock Yates went down to Naples, Florida to cover swamp buggy racing. Even the turbine guys have to spend time on the dyno searching for more power. Turbines have fallen away from popularity at the highest levels, partly due to special licensing, some say because the newer tire designs aren't friendly to them, etc. Despite the so-called "rated power" settings, you didn't think they would just stand around and take a whipping form the piston-pumping set did you? What makes this clip extra cool is that we are 99% sure it shows Tim Arfons testing the T58 that now sits in his re-creation of Art's slingshot dragster. We have fallen behind and have plenty to show you, including a new podcast this week. Here's what we saw on an extremely hot Saturday at Sand Lake, MI with West Michigan Pulling back on June 30th.
The day has finally arrived where we can show you the new look of the Fill-Rite Bacon Bit$ mini of Dusty Price. It seemed like a natural fit for the NE Indiana based team to partner up with a company that calls the same area home and produces the best fluid transfer pumps, meters, and equipment that are in demand everywhere a machine like his is likely to come off of a trailer. With a fresh hemi built and tuned by the venerable Ken Veney, the Advanced Chassis is set to be a terror of pulling tracks around the midwest. The Sage Family is also heavily involved with Pro-Bell Clutch Housings and SCS Gearbox as well as at-track mentoring. Look for the beautiful ScottRods-clad Bacon Bit$ at select events this summer.
West Michigan Pullers visited the Montcalm County Fair in Greenville, MI of Friday June 29th. The track was wide and presented a couple of different lines to the pullers, one of which was right down the left chalk line. This would come back to haunt one competitor with an out-of-bounds DQ. Despite the dirt being on the soft side, it could take the power as a number of tractors would end end their passes with snuffed chargers. Click the link below to view.
