1994 NFMS Rob Russell Work Horse. The all white 5 Millionth 1066 version of the Work Horse is one of the most recognizable SS tractors ever built. While it would not net him a GN title in it's lifetime, it did win at BG and NFMS on multiple occasions. He would finish 2nd in this, it's debut event in which it was as yet unpainted.

1990 Wauseon, OH Dave Haley Haley's Comet V12 Allison modified. For our throwback Thursday, we have the weekly mandatory Allison clip. This one has deep roots back into the 70's. Haley was never a top competitor on the national scene, but the veteran from eastern OH was very tough on the lighter classes on the state and regional circuits. Most hardcore fans are aware of Haley's Comet, but haven't seen it run. I was lucky to find this from as late as '90 having figured it had bee retired some years before that. 2002 Inwood, ON Steve Burge Lock N Load IH 1066 Super Stock. 2002 would be the 3rd season for the team out of Indiana. It was early days and a lot of learning was going on with top 10 points finishes for 5 years, but no wins. That GN breakout would happen in 2005 with the first of 4 coming at Tomah on the way to a 4th place points finish, their best to that point. Since then, a pile of wins and 2 GN titles have followed. 1987 Hillsdale, MI Charlie Wilcox Plum Loco single Big Block Chevy modified. Plum Loco was the one that started it for Chargin' Charlie. Within a year, he'd be running both it and the new Plum Nasty (the first of 2). As he progressed, no one would make NA motors sing louder on a mod and all in the same key. 2001 Armada Fair Johnnie Griggs Farmall M. Between Johnnie and Maurice Stine, this machine has pulled everywhere from Florida to Colorado. These days it is owned by John Sexton and the 421ci engine is still a threat every time it come off the trailer in speed limit classes. 2000 Imlay City, MI Ron Barga II The Judge. It's the return of the mandatory Allison clip. We have noted a lot of firsts that happened at Imlay City over the years and here is another. Ron Barga II got his first crack at the Judge... Only The Judge decided to have a little tantrum first by pitching a small fire. That was quickly sorted, Ron laid down a smooth lap, and the family continues to do well today. 1998 Tony Sietsema Berlin Raceway Marne, MI. Tony is one of the originators of Super Farm, but in 1997, that class didn't exist yet. Back this far in time, he was running with what was then called the Michigan Farm Stock Tractor Pullers Assoc and with Thumb. As you can tell by the look and the sound, this machine isn't very far removed from what would become Wolverine Deere and earn for Tony 6 RN2 SF titles and counting. 1998 Rob Foster Simply Red Enderle Pull Off Ft. Recovery, OH. It's interestesting to trace the evolution of particularly exhaust manifold design through the history of this truck. It started with zoomies and went through several phases. This version is the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar era with very long primaries. Anyway, the Simply Red that was mostly black has a rough go of it here, but those days were and are few and far between for Rob. |
