Back into the archives of Jim Webb once again for 1980s minirods. It was still a time experimentation and innovation. Injected engines, turbos, blowers, it's all here.

Central Michigan Pulling hosted at the Marion Fair. Marion is a smalltown fair that I had not been to in 7 or 8 years, but I remember it as being a difficult track to get down. So it would prove. Marion is a soft track with a slight rise from the starting line and then leveling out. Towards the end of the session and with the sun well set behind the grandstand, it started to come in.
Click the link below to see what we saw. Charles Russell hits a ton of hooks in MI/IN/OH area and posts sweet video to his Stormy Pleasures YouTube channel. He was there with us at Berlin Raceway in Marne, MI on Wednesday night for the West Michigan Pullers points hook. This was a tough night for the pullers and REALLY hard on Jeff Storey, the Pioneer sled's owner/operator. As the session progresses, you're going to see the starting line progressively deteriorate to the point where he starts bouncing around the cab like a lottery ball! Air under the sled tires WITH the weight box still over them... NUTS! Day 2 Blanchard photos taken by the Poosch kids except for like 4 or 5. Not bad for 10 through 13 year olds! Thanks Alley, Christian, & Isabella for helping out.

We're getting ever-closer to seeing what the all-new Fill-Rite Pumps Bacon Bit$ is going to look like. Dusty Price and the Price Marketing Service team have been working overtime to put together a new hemi with the steady, guiding hands of Ken Veney. That new power will have a brand new look covering the Scott's Rods body in the colors of 2018 primary sponsor Fill-Rite Pumps and Meters. Click below for the latest in American Made fluid transfer! We'll keep you up-to-date on what Dusty's got planned next!
Lots to cover this week. Great Lakes Big Rig Challenge, TTPA Season Opener (good job!), the passing of John Hileman & Dan Utz, safety safety safety, and we talk with NHRA announcer, BangShift.com founder, and host of Put Up Or Shut Up on motortrendondemand.com BRIAN LOHNES. The new season has just started filming and episode one was shot this week with Keith Wayson and Randy Davis in a Light Unlimited Modified throwdown at GALOT Motorsports Park. We'll let you know when it's going to air, but you can only get it from their website or their channel on Amazon Prime.

With cool (okay, freakin' cold) temps and the threat of rain moving through to the west, there was minor concern that the show wouldn't get in, but it never was truly in doubt. Pulling seasons rarely start with full entry sheets because, despite having 8 months to be ready, things don't always work out that way. Not this year. 85 hooks signed on!!! EIGHTY-FIVE! Better still is that we are hearing about new machines coming on line in a few weeks. There's always concern over the so-called "health" of the sport, but it seems to us like a more concentrated TTPA schedule, with essentially all of the hooks in the Thumb Region, is just the shot in the arm that was needed.
Click below for our gallery. Oh, yeah!!! Pulling is in full swing with NTPA Super National at Galot Motorsports Park in NC, PPL Champions Tour at Ft. Recovery, OH, and regional pulling EVERYWHERE!!! Get in the mood with this Rewind back to sometime in the mid 80s at Centerville, MI. Some of the more iconic modifieds (at least to folks in the MI, NWOH, NEIN region) are featured. This footage comes to us courtesy of Jim Craig of Gopher tractor fame that you'll see run a couple of times. |
