1996 NFMS and Kevin Komraus is a Farm Show rookie with the old Rooster of Danny Dean. Sort of interesting to note the side by side exit atmospheric turbo setup and the aluminum front wheels in place of the usual red steelies. Neither feature would stay in place for very long.

Army stands beside Jerry Van Dorpe's Screamin' Demon 2 to talk smokers from Inverness, FL. 1993 RN2 NTPA pull at Arcola, IN. Harold Wilson is on The Sledhandler. New for the year is the orange Deutz Allis hood, but underneath it still beats a AC 426 and, naturally, 4 turbos. Reverse wasn't quite cooperating on this night, but officials, friends, and competitors were there to help make it happen. Head back to the 1980s somewhere in the MI/IN/OH area for some minirod action... I didn't take a whole ton of photos at PRI and the ones that I did were done with my phone only. However these were a few things that did grab my attention in between conversations around the Expo Center.
Click below to have a look. Turn of the Century. Pro Stock hasn't gone component and V8s in the tractor classes are still a pretty rare thing. The Storm Massey with a 640ci Perkins V8 is being a bit grumpy on this day until it gets some heat in it. You'll definitely hear the difference once it warms up. Pro Stocks haven't really changed in this regard through to today. In the formative years of the TWD class, it was seen a bit as an exhibition class more than a competitve one and as such, there really weren't a lot of rules that restricted what one could do so all manner of powerplants were tried. Not least of which Allison V12s like seen here in this IH truck bodied machine. Those exotic powerplants would go by the wayside by the late 80s and a very consistent rulebook would emerge that has made TWDs one of the most popular and difficult classes on the sport. The photo gallery from Autorama 2020 Detroit are available at the link below. The show was overall pretty good, although I must say that while I can appreciate the fine workmanship and attention to detail that goes into the sky-is-the-limit customs that are contending for the Ridler Award, I rarely "get" them as a completed piece and this year was no exception. There were still too many LSXs, but it was nice to see some Fords that at least had Coyotes in them.
Next stop... we may have to go backwards. I never put up all the photos from PRI back in December... Dave Archer back in a simpler time when he was a threat anywhere he unloaded in NTPA Region II. Later in the decade, he would jump to Grand National, add a second tractor for his daughter, try some different combos, and go right on winning. These days, they participate in Land Speed Racing... with an Allis Chalmers tractor. ALSO: Quick note. The site is now SSL Enabled. All that means to you is a safer, more secure browsing experience. Locke Performance will be closed the rest of the week to offer training to their staff. All of this is to give you a better experience with them. Normal business operations will resume on Monday March 9th.
