1998 Imlay City, MI Terry Sawgle Ornery Terry ran a succession of modifieds through the 80s and 90s starting with 2 motors and working up to 4. Terry is the "S" in J&S, partners with Bob Jostock. It is also why this tractor bears a resemblence to the Wild Child. You'll still find him at the front counter at the shop on M24 in Lapeer.

1993 Ken Miller Corn And Soybean Special. In the early 90s, the light modified class was still alive and quite popular on the Pro National (later to be known as Regional National) tour at 5800lbs. Ken has been a stalwart of the RN tour for decades with his Chevy powered mod. In 1993 the 7200 setup was 3 motors crank to crank. For the 5800, the middle one would come out and a shaft went in it's place. This may seem unusual to us to day, but back then, the need for nose weight was not what it is today primarily because the horsepower wasn't what it is now and the tires available wouldn't bite as hard as modern ones would either. Tonight's time-waster is from 1991 at BG. Featured are the Saturday night Super Stocks, Sunday Super Stocks & Sunday Modified tractors. All of the heavy hitters are represented. 2001 Armada Fair Maurice Stine IH 656. Maurice was a veteran of the track having pulled a 60 Series Farmall in the lighter Super Stock classes and later partnering with Johnnie Griggs on a tough Farmall M. This 656 fit into a class that exploded in popularity in eastern MI in the 1990s only to fade almost overnight as it really started to get out of hand. it was called Go-Fast. If you're are looking for the roots of what is today referred to as Naturally Aspirated Super Stock, here it is. Maurice's son Wayne is still active as a puller in the LLSS class with Warhorse, a red one of course. 2000 North Branch, MI ATPA Grand American Jordan Lustik Silver Bullet. The tractor clearly needs no introduction. This night would not be their's up against 20 other alky supers (yeah, been a minute since that happened, eh?). It would be a successful season nonetheless with a 3rd place finish in the ATPA and a National Championship Win in the NTPA. 1994 Armada Fair Dave Valentine Part Time AC D21 SS. Dave ran this Heavy Super for a handful of seasons on the MI state circuits. By the mid '90s the tractor has moved south in the state into the hands of the Diubles who renamed it Pumpkin Gone Mad. Thsi past winter it was once again for sale, but we have not heard if it has moved or not. The sale of the tractor was not the end of Dave in pulling. His daughter is married to Kenny Measel and he was involved in their efforts with Minig For Dollars. These days, you'll still find Dave at events, usually int he pits of the Capozzo's Cruel Intentions Super Farm. Tonight for your enjoyment it's NTPA RN2 from Arcola, IN 1997 featuring SS, FWD, MOD, & TWD. Enjoy, be patient, and be safe. 1995 Enderle Pull-Off Tony Martin on the Terminator qualified as the RNIII champion and came out here in the last hook of the Pull-Off and took the win back to Iowa. Tonight we're kicking it back to 1974 & 1975 with some film footage of Super Stocks that came my way thanks to Greg Lussetto. Do not adjust your speakers, there's no sound. 1992 Enderle Pull-Off Steve Olson from Iowa was in with the Miller High Life Express and was the defending champion of the event. He would come up short on this day. This pulling truck is frequently confused with the Penske-built replica owned by the metro-Detroit Miller beer distributor that is seen all over the tri-county area during the summer months. UPDATE: The replica is now for sale on Facebook! |
